Tip 10

Realize that if the lawyer seems too good to be true, (s)he probably is.  In every profession there are a few bad people and the legal profession is no exception.  While most lawyers are honest, you should still take care to be sure the one you choose has a good reputation.  Use Google to search for the lawyers you have interviewed.  When people are unhappy they tend to post their complaints online.  Beware if you are being told your lawsuit is an open and shut case. No lawyer should EVER guarantee a happy result in a lawsuit.  Every lawsuit comes with some risk.  If you suspect the lawyer is telling you only what you want to hear, you are probably right.

  7. This is a great article. I like all the tips on this site but I think this one is the most important. As much as you want to hire a trustworthy lawyer, they will also try to sell themselves. If you think they are saying they can promise things that seem fake then I would continue to look for other lawyers. That is why it is very important to do your research about every lawyer before making decisions. When my neighbor was looking for one, I told him to learn about Marshall Davis Brown JR because he has great knowledge of the exact case.

  9. I agree with you that there are pros and cons to every firm you work with. You have to find a balance that works for you and be flexible enough to work with whatever challenges come your way. Hardly ever do cases work out exactly as you expect them to, so don't worry when things don't go as planned! It's alright to feel a little stress, but don't let it overwhelm you.

  12. I wonder why it is always "too good to be true?" It is sad that there are people in the legal field who rip others off. It just doesn't seem legal to me. I appreciate your tips on keeping a cautious eye. http://www.martinlawyers.ca/about.php

  13. Shreryl, thank you for the tip. I really like when you said that no lawyer should ever guarantee a happy result in a lawsuit. People need to understand that as you said there's always a risk with every lawsuit. Most of us are not experts in the matter, therefore your suggestions provide great clarity.

  14. It's not the tip people want to hear, but I think it's the most important. No lawyer should guarantee the outcome of a case. A good lawyer will admit the limitations of their help, but offer their services anyway. It's important to know what to watch out for as well as what to look for when talking to lawyers. http://www.scottandscottlaw.com

  15. It is so true, a good lawyer will tell you if something is going to work out or not. He is not going to beat around the bush and hold information from you. A lawyer that is too good to be true will try to keep that image as much as possible. http://carterwestlaw.com/who-we-are/
